Starting over chapter 07

Chapter seven
Ben held the door for Meg and she went inside. She stood still on the top of the stairs and looked around “This looks great Ben” she smiled at him “Thanks, took quite some work to get it the way I wanted it, it was a really run down building” he took her hand “Come on, there’s someone I’d like you to meet” they went down the stairs and over to the bar “Hi Boss, when did you come back” the bartender said “Hi Mark” Ben answered “This morning, sorry I haven’t checked in with you before, but Derek surprised me with a wedding so it’s been crazy all day” Mark laughed “Typical Derek, but it’s nice to see you’re back. I almost thought you had gotten held up in Europe due to those ash clouds” “Thank God I didn’t” Ben turned towards Meg “Meg, this is Mark, he’s the best bartender in town, but his mine so don’t go around thinking you could steal him to the hotel” Meg shook Mark’s hand over the bar “Meg Cummings, it’s me and my sister that’s rebuilding the old hotel by the beach that Ben’s talking about” “Nice to meet you Meg” Mark said with a smile “I need to check a few things in my office, why don’t you stay here and have a drink?” Ben suggested “Ok” Meg turned towards Mark “I’ll have a glass of wine please… white” “One white coming up” he took out a glass and turned around to get the bottle. Ben quickly kissed Meg’s cheek and left. “So” Mark said as he put the wine in front of Meg “How do you know Ben and how come you’re dressed up like you were his date to this wedding?” “You ask and awful lot of questions” she smiled “But I will answer them as well as I can. I met Ben on my vacation, but I didn’t know we were living in the same town, not until I had yelled at his brother for marrying my sister and that’s why I’m dressed up” “You yelled at Derek for marrying your sister?” “Yes, I thought he was Ben and when Ben turned up… well that’s another story” “Seems like an intense day” Mark said “It sure was, and it’s still a bit strange. I can’t believe my sister is married” She got a dreamy look in her eyes “A penny for your thoughts” Mark said and Meg smiled at him “I was just thinking how nice the day turned out” “And that was pretty nice by the look on your face” Mark said and picked up the phone as it rang “Sure I will” Mark hung up “It was Ben, he said to tell you to go upstairs” Mark nodded towards some stairs in the back “He’s got his office over there”

Meg knocked on Ben’s door “Come in” he answered “It’s just me” Meg said when she popped her head in and saw Ben get up from behind his desk. He came over and gave her a long hug “Oh Meg” he bent his head and kissed her like he had the night before when they thought it was the last time ever “I’ve missed you, I never thought I’d see you ever again” he said when they parted “Me neither” Meg looked straight into his eyes “I was so angry with you when I saw Derek, I didn’t know you were twins” “Sorry I left that out” Ben held her close “Well who knew we’d meet again” Meg said “But we did, and you really scared me there for a few minutes when you fainted” Meg kissed his cheek “Sorry about that, it had been a lot going on and seeing two of you… well it got to be too much” “But you’re ok now” “Yes I am, it’s been a lovely day although as I said to Mark downstairs I can’t believe my sister is married” “Me neither, I mean I can’t believe Derek ever was going to find a girl to settle down with” Meg looked up at Ben “And what about yourself?” “What do you mean?” Ben asked “Ever thought about settling down?” “Not until recently, but then I lost her” “What would you do if you ever found her again?” Meg asked curiously “I’d ask her to start over with me” Ben answered “And if she said yes to starting over” Ben lowered his head so his lips were just above hers “Then I’d kiss her” Meg put her hands on Ben’s face and whispered “Yes”

Starting over chapter 06

Chapter six
“What do you mean you want an explanation” the man said and opened a door to another room “Let’s get in here to talk” he suggested “No way!” Meg said “We can talk here and now” Meg said stubbornly “Are you marrying my sister” the man grinned “Yes I am. You must be Meg” he extended his hand “Are you kidding me? After what we shared as late as last night?” Meg said “Now I don’t understand. You have to excuse me, but you got me all puzzled” “Any problems D?” Ben asked as he walked into the chapel. That was the last thing Meg heard before she fainted. “Meg, Meg” Ben sat down on his knees just beside her and Meg slowly opened her eyes “Ben?” she asked “Yes, it’s me. Are you ok?” he sounded worried. Sarah had heard all the commotion and came rushing out “Meg, what happened” she looked at her sister “She fainted” Ben informed her as he helped Meg to sit up “Are you ok?” Sarah asked “Yes I am” she blinked a few times “Or not” she looked at Ben and then at the man she had been arguing with. They looked identical only Ben didn’t wear a suit jacket. Ben followed Meg’s eyes “Meg, this is my twin brother Derek” Ben helped Meg to stand up “Derek, this is Meg” he said with pride in his voice. He put his arm around her for support. “Twins?” Meg looked at Derek “I’m sorry. I thought you were Ben” Sarah looked at her sister and Ben “Ok, let’s take a few minutes and solve this” Sarah extended her hand to Ben “I’m Sarah Cummings, I’m the one marrying your brother in a few minutes” Ben took her hand “I’m delighted to finally meet you. I’ve heard a lot about you in Derek’s e-mails” Derek grinned “But how do you two know each other?” she asked and looked at Ben and Meg “We met at Mallorca” Meg tried to sound casual. “And you didn’t tell me about it” Sarah said because it was so easy even for an untrained eye to see that Ben and Meg was more than two persons who had just met.

“What is going on here?” Hank asked as he and Joan entered the chapel. Sarah turned around “Mom, Dad you’re here” she beamed and took Derek’s hand “Derek, this is my parents. Hank and Joan. Mom, dad this is Derek, my husband to be” Derek shook both their hands “It’s lovely to meet you both Mr and Mrs Cummings. I’m sorry we didn’t meet before, but Sarah and I didn’t want to wait” “Nice meeting you too Derek” Joan said. Hank of course was a bit more reserved, but what father wouldn’t be. Meg and Ben was standing a few steps away, Meg still a bit pale from her fainting “Meg, are you ok?” Joan asked when she saw her “You look a bit pale” Meg smiled “I guess with Sarah shocking us with her wedding and then me finding out that Derek was Derek and not Ben as I first thought it was too much” “And you know” Joan looked at Ben “Ben was it?” he nodded “how?” she looked at Meg “Well we met at Mallorca” Meg explained and turned towards Ben “Ben, this is my mother Joan Cummings” “Nice to meet you Mrs Cummings” Ben extended his hand “I’m Ben Evans. Derek over there is my twin brother” he nodded towards Derek who was standing next to Sarah and Hank “And you must be Mr Cummings” Ben said and took a step towards them to shake Hank’s hand “I sure am” Hank said “And I’m really interested in hearing the full story and I’d like it now” Joan put a hand no her husband’s arm “Let’s all calm down. I’m sure there are more than one story to tell, but I believe that we have a daughter who would love to marry this man” she smiled at Derek. She had always been a bit more laid back when it came to her daughters than Hank “That’s so true mom” Sarah said and then panic was all over her face “oh no, you weren’t supposed to see me before the wedding” Derek looked at her from top to toe and smiled “Actually I didn’t really notice before, but you look more lovely than usual” “You look great too” Sarah smiled back and they only had eyes for each other.

“Hrm” Everyone turned around “I’m Father Antonio and I believe I’ve got a wedding to perform” he shook hands with everyone “Nice to see you again” he said to Sarah and Derek. “Shall we get started?” Sarah looked at Meg “Just give me and my sister a few minutes to freshen up” they went into the room again. Derek and Ben followed Father Antonio and took their places at the altar. Hanks and Joan waited for their girls just outside the door.

“Are you ready for this?” Meg asked Sarah “I sure am, but are you ok, you still look a bit pale” Meg smiled “I’m fine, it was just a shock. I thought Derek was Ben and I really gave him my piece of mind and when Ben then walked in and I saw them both, well…” she let the happenings speak for themselves. “Come on” Meg hugged her sister “Let’s get you married” they went out into the corridor where their parents were waiting. “Aren’t Derek’s parents coming?” Joan asked and Sarah sighed “No, their mother died last year and the father’s not been around since they were about 10 years old” “Oh that’s sad” Joan looked at the closed door as Sarah turned to her father “Dad, will you walk me down the aisle?” Hank smiled “I sure will” He offered is arm for Sarah and Joan and Meg went to open the door. They walked down the aisle to stand on the opposite side of where Derek and Ben were standing. Meg smiled at Ben, she had just realized that her sister was marrying his brother and there would be plenty of chances for them to meet. Since Derek and Sarah both were fairly new in town there weren’t many people in the church. A few nuns and some elder people who just had happened to be at the chapel had stayed on. It was a short but lovely ceremony with a few hymns that Derek and Sarah had chosen together just the day before when they had met with Antonio.

Afterwards they all went over to Grenadines where they were greeted with champagne. “It was really beautiful ceremony Sarah” Joan said “But what was the hurry, you’re not…?” Sarah laughed “No mom” she took Derek’s hand “It just felt right and why wait” “Well you always were impulsive” Joan agreed and looked at Derek “And I’m looking forward to getting to know you” “And I you” Derek smiled. “I certainly hope you’ll be treating her nicely” Hank added “Oh Mr Cummings, I certainly will, nothing bad will come near Sarah if I’ll have a say” Derek promised. Ben and Meg stood a little to the side “I can’t believe I got to meet you again, do you live here too?” Meg asked “Yes I do, and so do you” Ben stated “So you are one of the women behind that big rebuilding going on down the beach” “Guilty” Meg said. “From the looks of it, it will be great, and with your photos as art work…” Ben looked her in the eyes “…everybody ever checking in will want to come back” A waiter came and showed them all over to the table where they had a lovely meal. Afterwards Derek and Sarah went over to his house. Joan and Hank was tired and wanted to go back to the house “Are you coming with us?” Joan asked Meg “No, I’m taking Ben up on his offer for a drink in the club” Ben looked at Hank and Joan “You’re still free to come” Joan shook her head “Not tonight” “Well, whenever you come, the drink’s on me” Ben shook both their hands “It was so nice to meet you both Mr and Mrs Cummings” “Oh Ben” Joan said all charmed “You and your brother can both call us Joan and Hank” “Thank you” Ben said. Hank and Joan took a cab back to the house and Ben and Meg went to the Deep.

Starting over chapter 05

Chapter five
“I’m sorry miss Cummings, but it seems that your booking’s disappeared” the clerk at the desk in Frankfurt said “But I checked it last night” Meg insisted and showed her print out “It was there then” she sighed. She felt crappy since she had parted from Ben, vacation romances sucked. “Well all seats are taken now” “Are you sure, isn’t there anything, anywhere?” “Sorry miss, unless you want to upgrade I can’t help you” Meg rolled her eyes “Ok then, upgrade me, I just want to get home” she handed him her credit card. Before long it was time to board the flight. Meg quickly found her seat and sat down. The flight was long but at least it was comfortable as she flew first class. She arrived in New York just in time to catch her flight to Los Angles. As she was waiting for her bags she thought she saw a familiar couple, but it couldn’t be, could it?! “Mom, dad?” they turned around “What are you doing here?” “Oh Meg” her mother Joan rushed over to hug her “How are you?” “I’m fine” Meg answered “Just a bit puzzled to what you are doing here” her father arrived at them “Hello Meggie” he kissed her cheek “You’re looking great” Meg shook her head and looked at her mom again “So…” “Well, your sister had us flown out here, I guess it was to look at this new place you both got going and to celebrate you coming back from your trip, which looks on you to have been great” “That’s the first I’ve heard of it. Sarah must be up to something else. But it’s so great to see you both” she hugged her parents again and then they all gathered their bags and went out of the airport. “There is an airport shuttle that’s going to Sunset Beach, I guess we could catch that” Meg suggested. “Sounds like a great idea, that way we don’t have to drive thru this hectic traffic” her mother said and looked at all taxis and cars around the airport.

It was around noon when they arrived in Sunset Beach. Meg took her parents over to the house she and Sarah was sharing. “I hope Sarah’s got a perfectly good explanation for this” Meg said and unlocked the door “Sarah, I’m back and mom and dad are here too” she called. “I’m coming” Sarah called back and came running down the stairs “I’m so happy you’re all here” she hugged them “Meg, we need to go shopping” she grabbed her sister’s hand but Meg stood put “Wait a minute. I’ve just had a really long flight and all I want to do is to catch some sleep” Meg said “After you’ve explained to me why mom and dad are here” “Ok” Sarah looked at them all “But then we have to hurry” “You’re worrying me Sarah” Joan said. “Mom, dad” she looked at them and then at Meg “I’m getting married” she showed them a ring that was out of this world “I’m so happy for you Sarah” Joan said “When will we get to meet your husband to be” Sarah grinned “What do you say about four pm” “Oh, he’s coming here then?” Sarah shook her head “No, you can all meet him at the chapel” Her father looked at her “Sarah Cummings, what are you up to, you can’t just marry a guy like this. How long have you known him” Sarah was still beaming “About two and a half weeks” Joan sat down in the sofa “Two and a half weeks” she was shocked. “Yes, but I know he’s the one so why should I wait. We both feel the same way” she turned around to look at her sister “What do you say Meg?” Meg took a grip of her shoulders “Are you sure about this Sarah, this is beyond anything you’ve done before and you’ve always been impulsive” Sarah nodded “Yes I’m as sure as I’m sure that I want you to be my maid of honor, so let’s go shopping for your bride’s maid dress” she turned to their parents “You just take a shower and dress in something nice, we’ve book a table at the Grenadine’s for dinner afterwards” She then dragged her sister out of the door.

Joan looked at her husband “Did you get that? Our little baby is getting married” Hank stood up and paced the floor “To a man we’ve not even met. I don’t know how she could do this” “Well, Meg said it, she’s always been impulsive. I just hope this is a good young man and not someone without any prospects for the future”

Meg didn’t find out much more from her sister on their shopping trip. After finding a dress Sarah took Meg to a salon to get their hair and make up done and before long it was time to get to the little chapel “I didn’t even know this was here” Meg had said “Well, you’ve not spent enough time here yet, but you can explore the town the next two, three weeks as we’re going on our honey moon” “You’re going on a honey moon, when, where?” Sarah shook her shoulders “I don’t know where, but we’re not going until the day after tomorrow. I couldn’t get mom and dad here and not spend any time with them, besides I need to fill you in a bit too” she opened a door “Ok, I will wait here, can you go see if mom and dad have arrived yet?” It had all happened so fast so Meg agreed “Sure” she said and went out in the corridor again. She was looking for her parents and didn’t see where she was walking and bumped into a person. She looked up “You?!” she looked at the dressed up man “What are you doing here?” “Excuse me” the man said. “No I won’t excuse you, I want an explanation”

Starting over chapter 04

Chapter four

“I thought you were going to treat me to lunch” Sarah said as she laid satisfied in Derek’s arms. “Well… “he grinned “it was my plan, but you’ve got a strange way of changing my plans” he kissed her. “Actually I’ve got the lunch in the kitchen, I just need to heat it” He got out of bed and Sarah enjoyed the view “Mind if I borrow your shower?” she asked. “Not at all” he said and put on his jeans and a shirt that he didn’t bother buttoning. After her shower Sarah walked down the stairs “It smells lovely Derek” she said “Well Grenadines is the best place in town. Would you like some wine?” “Sure” she answered and they sat down to eat “This is a nice little house you’ve got here” she said “You think?” he looked surprised “Otherwise I wouldn’t have said so. I like the decorating, did you do it yourself?” Derek shook his head “No, the previous owner did, I liked it and just bought the house as it was” “But something you must have done, it feels like you” Sarah said “Not really” Derek shred his shoulders. “What shall I say to get you to talk a bit more about yourself?” Sarah smiled at him “Actually I would much rather talk about you” he took his wine in one hand and offered his other to Sarah “Let’s move over to the sofa” she got up and brought her wine. “So Sarah Cummings, what’s your story” he said and put his free arm around her shoulders “There’s not much to say really” “There must be, what was your dreams growing up, where did you grow up?” he nuzzled her neck “Ludlow, Kansas” she answered him. She had never talked much about her time growing up, not that it hadn’t been good, just no one’s been interested before “Why do you want to know?” she turned her head “Why? I want to know everything about you of course” “What made you become an architect for example?” Sarah remembered back in time “That must have been when I helped my dad build a tree house, Meg wasn’t very interested I guess she was with mom cooking or something and our brother Sam is a few years older than us so he was off with his friends” “How old were you?” Derek was curious “I must have been 7 or 8. Dad let me decide almost everything” she smiled at the memory “You really had a nice time growing up didn’t you?” “The best” Sarah answered and turned around so she was sitting facing Derek “What about you, what was your dreams growing up? Did you ever build a tree house?” Derek laughed “Hardly, my dad wasn’t the building type if I say so” Sarah saw a sadness in his eyes “What was he like then, and your mom?” “Mom was great” “Was?” Sarah asked “Yes, she passed away last year” Sarah hugged him close “I’m sorry about that, what about your father, is he still alive?” “I don’t know, we’ve not seen him since he left us when we were 10” “Who are we?” “Me and my brother” Derek said “Are you close? I mean I couldn’t think about a life without being close to my sister and brother” “Yes we’re close and I’m happy about that since we’re twins” “Twins?? Do you look a lot like each other?” Derek laughed “You can say that, we’re identical, at least when it comes to looks” Sarah held a hand to her forehead and pretended to faint “There is two of you” but she couldn’t hold be the laughter and Derek bent forward to kiss her. “You know Sarah Cummings, I think I’m falling in love with you”
__________________________________________________________________

Ben pulled away from the kiss and looked at Meg. “Sorry” “There’s nothing to be sorry about” Meg said and kissed him again. It didn’t take long until they ended up in bed making love “I’ve never felt like this” Ben confessed “Never been this impulsive” Meg snuggled close to him “Me neither” she felt totally safe in his arms. Ben kissed the top of her head and just held her close. He was returning to the states in just a few days. He hadn’t wanted any vacation romance, but he hadn’t expected to find his soul mate either. He dozed off and when he woke up again he was alone in bed, but he heard the shower was running so he knocked on the door and opened it “Can I help you with those out of reach spots?” he asked and Meg turned startled and looked at him “It seems to be a habit of mine to startle you” Ben smiled and walked over to get into the shower with her. He took the soap and sponge to wash her back. Meg held her hair out of the way and Ben couldn’t resist kissing her shoulders, but Meg turned around for a real kiss.

Half an hour later wrapped up in a towel Meg stood in front of the mirror brushing her hair. She looked up and met Ben’s gaze “Ben, I have a confession to make” she turned around “I’m leaving in three days, but until then I’d like to spend my time here with you” Ben pulled her close to his chest “Sounds like a lovely plan” he too was leaving in three days but since he didn’t know if they’d ever meet after they left Mallorca he didn’t want to think about it. “Let’s get dressed and go out for dinner, I know a cozy little restaurant just down the street”. They got a nice table and had a lovely meal with great wine “You really know your wine” Meg said impressed “Well it comes with running a night club and having an interest in it” he stroke her fingers “I know a little place where they make and sell local wine, maybe we could make a stop there tomorrow” Meg looked up at him “You still want to go with me tomorrow don’t you?” he asked “Of course I want to” she smiled.

After dinner they strolled the streets “I need to pick up a few presents” Meg said “Anything special?” Ben asked as they stopped outside a shop with ceramics. “Something for my mom” she went inside to look at plates and cups “I just hope it will hold during the flight now when you barely can bring anything in your carry-on bags anymore” “Tell me about it” Ben said “But if you wrap it up in some clothes and stuff I think it will hold” Finally Meg found something she thought her mom would like “Aren’t you brining your mom anything?” She saw how Ben’s expression changed in a second “Did I say something wrong?” she looked up at him. Ben kissed her cheek “No, it’s just I’ve not thought about her in a while” “What do you mean?” Meg asked “She passed away last year” “I’m so sorry” Meg gave him a hug. “Thank you” Ben said. “I couldn’t think of a life without my parents even though we’re not living in the same state anymore” Meg said as she paid for her gifts “It wasn’t easy but at least I still have my brother” “You got a brother, I had you figured as an only child” Ben laughed “Nope, I’ve got a brother” he said.

Ben and Meg spent the next two days together and on their last evening after a lovely dinner they took a stroll on the beach “I will miss our morning runs” she looked at Ben. He pulled her closer and looked her deep in her eyes “I will miss you” They sat down in the sand and just held each other. From a hotel not too far away they heard some music.

I feel a chill in the air
Something is wrong.
I see your face everywhere
Since you`ve been gone.
And I`ll do best that I can,
So baby hold on.
And when I see you again,
You don`t have to stay alone.

Just hold me
Hold me
Just hold me
Hold me

So much I need to say
But I can`t get through.
I guess there`s no other way
To get my love to you.
Somehow we`ve made it this far,
So don`t give up now.
Tonight where ever you are,
Baby, when you close your eyes.

Just hold me
Hold me
Just hold me
Hold me.

Starting over chapter 03

Chapter three
“That would be nice” Meg agreed to Ben’s proposal about going to Valldemosa together “Do you know when the bus will leave?” she asked. “Nah, I thought I’d rent a car and drive myself, that is if you’ll feel safe going with me” The waiter came to clear their plates away and asked if they wanted some coffee “Not for me” Meg said “The wine is enough” and Ben agreed and when the waiter left he turned back to Meg “What do you say” Meg smiled “Somehow in this short time I’ve gotten a feeling I do feel safe with you, so yes, I’d like to go with you”

Too soon the lunch was over and it was time to get back on the bus. There were two more stops on the trip one at the pearl factory and one at a shop with a lot of ceramics and about 40 different kinds of liqueur. Most men were gathered around the bus at the first stop while the women visited the factory and later the shop. Meg had never seen so many counters filled with pearl jewellery. She bought herself a single drop formed pearl to hang in a necklace and a similar one for her sister.

The next morning when Meg started her run on the beach she noticed Ben and picked up her pace “Good morning Ben” said as she came up at his side. They both stopped “Good morning” he smiled at her “Thanks for yesterday, it was nice to spend the trip with someone for once” “I have to agree” Meg said “You want some company on the run?” “Sure” Ben said and they started off walking to pick up the pace to a slow jog. “Can I buy you a cup of coffee?” Ben asked as they stood back at the spot they had met stretching. Meg hesitated “Oh sorry” Ben said “You maybe have other plans” Meg shook her head “Not really, the only thing I had planned today was to look thru some photos and stuff my sister sent yesterday…. But it can wait” Meg was surprised at her own reaction, NEVER had worked gotten to wait before. Ben held out his hand “Come on then, I know a great place. Close to the big road in the crossing but it got great service” Meg took his hand and they walked off. At the restaurant Ben ordered coffee and the menu “Are you hungry?” “Actually yes I am, but I can pay my own way” Ben shook his head “No, I asked you and this will be my treat” As they waited for their order the talked about the trip the previous day “I got some really great photos” Meg said “I loaded them onto my laptop last night” “Oh” Ben said “I never got around to look at mine” Meg looked at him “I guess not everyone spends their evenings like me, locked up in their hotel room looking at photos. I guess you went out” Ben shook his head “No, I get enough of that at home” he admitted and added quickly “I’ve got a night club of my own” “Interesting” Meg said “What’s it called?” “The Deep” Ben answered her “Not very originally, but it’s in the cellar of the building I own where I keep an internet café in the ground level” “You’re a real business man, aren’t you?” Meg grinned “You can say that as I got another company together with my brother” “Wow, is there any end to your empire?” “Enough about me” Ben said “What do you do for a living?” he asked. “Me and my sister is renovating an old hotel that we hope to open within two months” Ben raised his eyebrows “And you’ve got time for a vacation?” “Well… you see I’m the economic of us and Sarah’s actually an architect so she’s in charge of renovating and decorating as long as she keeps within the budget” “And does she?” Ben asked curiously. “Mostly, I hope to keep the prices down by using some of my own photos from my trip as artwork” Meg confessed “I’d like to see that” Ben said. “Well you could always come back with me to the hotel now” Meg offered. “I guess I could, but I would really like to get back to my hotel and take a shower, maybe I can come when I’m done?” “Sure” Meg said and described what hotel she was staying at “It’s an apartment hotel” she said “More or less total privacy” Ben said “Yes, I like that especially since I’ve been cruising the Mediterranean and was stuck on a boat for two weeks, all inclusive is nice but I also like to have a choice of going out for dinner if I want to” she felt she was babbling on “All inclusive can be nice, but it has to be in a place that doesn’t have so many good restaurants around. I’ve found a few great places here” Ben said and waved for the waiter and asked for the bill. After he paid they left and agreed on meeting up in about an hour.

Meg figured she had enough time to take a shower herself and get the computer ready to show Ben the photos. Ben went back to his hotel, quickly showered and got dressed. He then headed down to the store on the corner of his hotel. He picked out a bottle of wine and then went onto the fruits. His mother had thought him never to show up empty handed at a first visit. She had never said it had to be done at a vacation, but somehow it felt right. 15 minutes early he knocked on Meg’s door. “Coming” he heard Meg call “Oh, it’s you, you’re early” “Sorry” Ben smiled and bent down to kiss her cheek and then handed her a basket. “You didn’t have to” Meg said “I wanted to” Ben answered and Meg let him in. “It’s a very big place” Meg said and took out two glasses from the cupboard in the little kitchen. “Will you do the honors?” she asked and handed him a corkscrew. “I don’t need that” Ben said and Meg laughed “I’ve still got to get used to many winemakers not using corks yet” Ben poured the wine and handed Meg one of the glasses. Meg motioned towards the sofa “Why don’t we sit down, I’ve prepared the file with the photos” Meg put her glass down beside her laptop where she also kept a notepad and pen “I’m trying to decide what photos to use, it’s not easy” Ben smiled at her “Are you self critic or uncertain what other people may think” Meg looked at him “I guess a bit of both, some photos feel to personal but in the same time I love them and want to share them with the world” “Are you going to let me see?” Ben asked “Sure” Meg said and clicked the file.

“You’ve really been on a long trip” Ben said as he saw photos from places like Paris, Berlin and Barcelona “Yes, it was a long coming vacation” Meg agreed “Ever been to England?” “No” Meg shook her head “I guess that has to wait for the next trip as I have to go home in a few days” “Well if you ever go, let me know and I can give you a few pointers on what to see and what to avoid” “I will” Meg said and as a strain of her hair fell forward Ben pulled it back behind her ear and stroke her cheek softly. Meg turned her head with a surprised look in her eyes “Sorry” Ben said “I didn’t mean to startle you like that” “Don’t worry, it’s just been a long time” Meg turned towards Ben. He put his hands around her face and softly kissed her.

Starting over chapter 02

Chapter two

Sarah woke up in bed alone the next morning, at her breakfast table she found a note from Derek asking her to meet up with him at his place for lunch. She checked her calendar and saw that for once she was free for lunch. She had had so many lunch meetings lately. She dressed in jeans and a t-shirt and headed off to the hotel. It was actually starting to look like what she and Meg wanted it to be. She went into the office and started her computer. She sent Meg some new photos of the development and then she put ‘Derek Evans’ into her search engine. They hadn’t been dating… was they even dating, she asked herself, well seeing each other for two weeks and the times they had spent the night together it had been at hers and Meg’s place 1499 Ocean avenue. A house, right at the beach, that they had been lucky to get their hands on. She looked at the address she got 1305 Ocean Avenue, at least same road, but again this was the road following the beach. She had jogged it all a few times and wondered what house that was Derek’s.

After a couple of hours she packed up her computer, she didn’t think she’d return today and if she was stopping at Derek’s she’d be able to get a few more hours in. If he let her, she thought. She sat in her car and drove off. Derek opened the door and leant on the frame even before Sarah got out of the car. “Hi there” he said with a grin “Hi” Sarah approached and gave him a kiss. “I missed you when I woke up” “Well I had a few things to do to clear my day” he put his hand on the low of her back and showed her inside “Welcome to my place, I hope it’s not too messy” “Oh, I don’t mind, not that particular about picking up around me” she laughed “My sister Meg will have a fit when she comes back” “How come?” Derek asked and Sarah hit him on the shoulder “You’ve seen the place, it’s a total mess” Derek raised his eyebrows “Mess? I’ve not seen any mess, but again I only have eyes for you” he looked her in the eyes “By the way, it’s been way to long since I did this last” he said and bent his head to kiss her.

During her stay Meg had been at a few tours around the island. Today she had decided to join a trip to the caves. Most of the people in the bus were in groups but not Meg and not the man she had met on the beach so many mornings. The only available seat was next to him “Do you want the window seat?” he offered. “No, the aisle is fine” Meg answered and sat down “I’m Meg” she extended her hand. “Ben” he said in the sexiest accent Meg had ever heard. Meg lifted her camera off her neck at the same time as Ben did and they bumped into each other “You’re into photographing?” she asked as she saw he had a camera like her own and it wasn’t one of those simple models “Yes, it’s been a hobby of mine for a long time. Are you sure you don’t want to have this seat, you could maybe get some photos of the view” Meg shook her head “No, as I said, this is fine, but maybe we could change after the next stop” “Hello and welcome to this trip” the guide started and Ben and Meg didn’t talk much more for a while. The first stop on the trip was Porto Cristo where the famous ‘Cuevas del Drach’ was located and after the stop there it was time for lunch in the little town. “This reminds me of home” Meg said. It still felt strange calling Sunset Beach ‘home’ “The closeness to the sea, the smell, the warm weather” the guide came up to Meg and Ben where they stood talking “I’m sorry but the restaurant made a mistake when setting the table and missed out on two settings” she said “Now they can only offer a place on the upstairs balcony and I really hate to split the families or groups up, would it be ok for you two to take that place?” Meg looked at Ben “It’s ok with me” and Ben smiled at the guide “Then it is ok” the guide sighed of relief “I will have the restaurant compensating us so when we get back to Alcudia you will get your money back for lunch, this isn’t ok for us” “Oh, ok” Meg said surprised. “Or you could fix us a nice bottle of wine” Ben started and looked at Meg “You do drink wine?” Meg nodded her answer and Ben turned back to the guide “Maybe something as local as possible” “I will try my best and thank you for cooperating” she went off and Ben and Meg was showed to the upstairs balcony where they had a lovely view out over the sea. Ben and Meg talked about their vacation on the island and both agreed that it was one of the best they’d ever been to. “Do you like classical music?” Ben asked “It can be nice and relaxing sometimes” Meg said “Saying that I don’t know that much about it” “Well there is a small village called Valldemosa where the composer Chopin lived and I was planning on going the day after tomorrow” he looked into her eyes “Maybe you’d like to join me”

Chapter one
Meg Cummings, 28 years old, originally from Ludlow, Kansas had reached her final destination on her three months European tour and cruise. The last two weeks she had been cruising the Mediterranean and now she had come to Mallorca. She had to find out about this island that was so special to her old penpal who she was meeting up within a few days.
Meg had just finished unpacking and now got dressed in her jogging outfit. No matter where she was she never missed her morning jogs, some of the last ones had been around the deck of the ship as they had been out on the water, but when they had been in port she’d had new sights every day. Today she planned on running the beach of Alcudia, and if she didn’t hurry she’d miss the peace and quiet before all tourists came to spend their day at the beach. She wasn’t alone on the beach, there were a few more runners this morning. She stopped to stretch out and then sat down in the sand and started thinking of what was waiting for her at home… or what was to be her home. She and her sister had just before she left signed the contract of an old rundown hotel in a small Californian town called Sunset Beach. Meg was the economic of the two and Sarah was an architect so she was already in place overlooking the rebuilding and decorating. This was going to be a top modern facility when they were finished; spa, casino, room to host plays and concerts along with of course hotel rooms and restaurants. As soon as Meg returned they were going to start interviewing and hiring their staff.
She lifted her head and gazed towards the harbor. She saw a man stretching out after his run and as he too lifted his head their eyes met. Meg got up and went back to her hotel.
The next few days just drifted by in the same way with the minor change that instead of just a gaze it was now a friendly smile and today they had even said helloe when they met on their morning run. Meg and the mysterious man.

Now she was irritated, she had tried to reach her sister in what should be all her morning. Sarah just longed to get to bed, but had to share this news with her sister.
“Finally” she said as Meg answered her cellphone “Where have you been?” “Good morning to you too” Meg responded “What makes me this pleasure?” “Pleasure? Don’t know since I’ve tried to reach you for hours” Sarah said and smiled. “Hey, I heard that” Meg said as she knew her sister was smiling “So what’s up really? Anything wrong?” “Not at all, in fact all’s great. Rebuilding is going as planned and I’ve gotten in contact with a security company. They’re new here just as us, but references was impeccable” Sarah beamed and continued “And the owner is just sooo handsome” Meg laughed “You’re incurable Sarah Cummings. So what’s this company’s name?” She wanted to do a background check of her own, mostly financial. “Twin Cqur” Sarah answered and spelled it for her. “And your contact person?” Meg asked and Sarah answered, maybe a bit too quickly “Derek… Derek Evans” “Oh, something else happening back there is it?” Meg teased her sister. Just being a year apart the sisters had always been close. “Well cince you’re not calling home about any vacation romances I have to have my own” Sarah said. “Sarah…” Meg began “Yeah, yeah I know… but it’s been two years since you found out about Tim and Connie and that was a blessing for you if I can say so again” she yawned “Meg, I really need to get to bed. Let me know if you find anything that says we shouldn’t hire this company. If not I’m ready to sign the contract and get the security going at once” “I will Sarah” Meg said “Have a good night and I’ll see you in 10 days time” the sisters hang up.
“Looks like my sister will make a background check of her own on your company” Sarah smiled “Maybe I should make another one myself” she approached her bed “Oh Sarah, you can check me out anytime” Derek grinned back at her and reached for her hand “Now.. come to bed, we’ve missed out on valuable time as it is already” he pulled her down on her back and kissed her thoroughly.
