Paradise Lost 01

This is a story that my friend Leslie is writing and I got permission to put up up here! I'll forward feedback if you leave it.

Chapter 1

Meg Cummings smiled to herself as she drove her dads pickup truck to the supermarket. She was so happy to be leaving Ludlow. She hated living in such a small town. She couldn’t wait to go to California and start a new life. Her bestie Tina was going to let her be roomies in a beautiful ocean side apartment in Sunset Beach, a seaside community that to Meg sounded like heaven compared to two bit Ludlow. As she walked into the market she realized how different her life was about to become “Tomorrow at this time I will be looking out over the ocean” Meg couldn’t help but giggle as she thought of all the new adventures that she was about to embark on.

Ben Evans straightened his tie as he looked at himself in the mirror “Very dapper if I should say so”  At 32 years old Ben had accomplished what his parents back in London never thought he would. He was a self made millionaire and a very smart businessman. But with being a workaholic that meant he had no time for any kind of social life. Another thing his parents harp on. When are you going to get married and settle down? When will we be grandparents? He smiled to himself. It’s not like he wasn’t interested in dating and maybe even in marrying, it’s just that he hasn’t found the time to do so. He picked up his briefcase and as he opened the front door of his beach house he took a deep breath of the ocean air. How he loved this quaint little beach community “Oh Sunset Beach…just another day in paradise” He closed the door and headed to his car to go to the office.

Maria Torres looked over at her brother Ricardo “Didn’t you hear me Maria?” She took a sip of her coffee and shook her head “I’m sorry Ricky. I guess my mind is wandering today” Ricardo smiled. His younger sister was so beautiful and he was very protective of her. He looked at her with love in his eyes “So why is my little sis so preoccupied today?” Maria shrugged even though inside she knew exactly what was wrong with her. Of course telling her big brother about her day dreams would set his protectiveness of her off the radar. She gave Ricardo one of her joyous laughs “It’s really nothing…just work that’s all” As she continued to drink her coffee, she glanced across the street and watched as the reason for her preoccupation got out of his car and walked into the office building on the corner. Maria sighed deeply, a reaction that Ricardo noticed but decided to let it go, for now anyway. Maria smiled to herself ‘Ben Evans…….Ben……’ She got up abruptly “I’m sorry Ricky. I just remembered I have something to do” Before Ricardo could respond, Maria practically ran over to her car and took a deep breath “You need to get ahold of yourself “ She laughed as she got into her car and started the engine “You can’t do things like that in front of your brother” She pulled out of the parking lot and decided to go home to a nice hot bath and her day dreams of Ben……..
